My sister-in-law Cathy Fletcher has become a skilled quilt maker. One of her brightest conceptions was to make a quilt out of Grateful Dead T-shirts. I don't know if you can call Cathy a real Deadhead, but she's certainly a fan. And rummaging through her bureau drawers produced the makings of a modern work of art. Quilts may be one of the finest historical markers. In England once I saw a collection commemorating Nelson's victory at Trafalgar, most of them made by girls barely into their teens. I don't know how many quilts there are celebrating the careers of rock stars. Who knows? Cathy may be starting a trend. If she does, I hope she gets credit for it in the history books.
