Shopping for Dresses
On Saturday, June 12, 2004, I went to Burlington with my wife and daughter to look for dresses. This may be a thing no grown man should ever do. No matter how imaginatively he tries to enter the world of women and dresses there's an element of intensity there that will always be beyond his grasp. It's not hard to understand that women want to look good and that an attractive dress helps in the effort. But the passion about dresses goes beyond any mere desire to be considered handsome. It comes from some fundamental place that contains not just one or two desires but all desires fused into a seething pit of visceral longing. I, myself, am glad that women have it, although being alongside of it when it's in action does not boost either male comfort or the male ego. But, we have to admit, it has, down the ages, produced some glorious sights.
